I believe in the healing power of love and self-compassion. Through a holistic approach I aim to create a safe and supportive space for you to explore some of the blocks that stand in the way of a more fulfilling life. I provide a warm, confidential and non-judgmental space where together we can explore the reasons that have led you here and increase your awareness.
My approach is tailored to meet your specific needs. I believe it is important to look at your current problems or long-term difficulties in the context of your whole life. My focus is not only on what is expressed in words but also on what the body says.
Effective therapy requires a trusting, mutual relationship where honest and respectful dialogue can take place.
I have experience of working in the NHS with people presenting with a wide range of emotional difficulties from anxiety, depression, panic attacks, to low self-esteem, shame, guilt and obsessive behaviour.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and I adhere to their code of ethics.
What are the sessions about?
The first session is an initial assessment to explore the issues you would like to work on, and possible ways of addressing them in therapy. You can tell me about yourself and learn a bit more about the way I work to see if you will be comfortable in therapy with me.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are scheduled at a regular time weekly. I have regular reviews to establish how the therapy is going for you, and whether it matches your expectations.
About my approach:
I am a fully trained Gestalt therapist.
Gestalt therapy works with the body (body sensations, muscle tensions, breathing) as well as with the mind (feelings, emotions, thoughts) and emphasises how we relate to ourselves, others and the wider environment.
I believe that as human beings we have the necessary abilities to face our difficulties. However, when something interrupts this process, often during childhood, we get stuck in some fixed patterns of behaviour and beliefs about ourselves. As a Gestalt therapist, through the exploration of past events and how they are experienced in the present, I aim to raise awareness on the ways these patterns are still affecting your present life.
