What is Co-dependency Counselling?
Co-dependency counselling refers to a relational pattern of psychological dysfunction which can significantly impact mental and emotional well-being. Do you find it hard to voice your needs in a relationship? Take on the burden of other people’s problems?
When we look at our relationships with others, what is the difference between being interconnected, interdependent or co-dependent?
Co-dependent relationships can, at times, be unhealthy, unbalanced and dysfunctional, with an overt or covert over-dependence on one another.
These relationships are often present in line with other addictive behaviours and can have many different manifestations and personal traits and symptoms; despite all best intentions, it can be difficult to break these harmful patterns of relating without help from a trained professional and resolve the stem of these difficulties.

How Therapy Can Help
At the Leone Centre, therapists with experience provide a non-judgemental environment where you can:
Uncover the Roots of Your Patterns: Therapy helps you understand the underlying needs, feelings, and behaviours driving your co-dependent tendencies. Gaining this awareness can empower you to make changes.
Create Healthy Boundaries: Learn to identify your needs and set healthy boundaries in your relationships. This allows you to create relationships built on mutual respect and balance, rather than sacrificing your wellbeing for others.
Find Your Voice: Therapy provides a safe space to practise expressing your needs and wants openly and honestly, without fear of judgement. This can lead to greater self-confidence and authenticity in all your interactions.
Reconnect with Yourself: Rediscover your values, interests, and passions. Therapy can help you prioritise your own needs and cultivate a stronger sense of self, encouraging a sense of fulfilment from within.
Build Resilience and Self-Acceptance: Therapy provides a space to process challenging emotions like guilt, shame, or self-criticism that can arise when exploring co-dependency. Developing self-acceptance and resilience strengthens your ability to approach challenges and build healthy relationships.
Deepen Connection and Intimacy: Therapy is not about isolating yourself; it’s about learning how to connect with others in authentic and sustainable ways. By understanding your relational needs, you can create more fulfilling and meaningful connections.
