About Rasa Motiejune:
I am an experienced UKCP-registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience in both the NHS and private practice. Since joining the NHS in 2007, I have worked across a variety of mental health settings, supporting couples and families through a wide range of emotional, relational and psychological difficulties.
I believe therapy should offer a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood and supported to make sense of the challenges they are facing. My approach is collaborative, compassionate and adapted to each person’s individual needs, helping clients create lasting change at a pace that feels right for them.
Grounded in systemic thinking, my work is integrative and draws on evidence-based models including Family and Systemic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)Understanding TF-CBT Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) designed to help individuals process... More about this therapy. I tailor each session to my clients’ goals and circumstances, offering a respectful space for exploration, growth and deeper understanding.
I have a particular passion for couple therapy, using Attachment Narrative Therapy (ANT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help partners reconnect, improve communication and strengthen their emotional bond. Many couples come to therapy feeling caught in the same painful cycles of misunderstanding and recurring conflict. As I often explain:
“A recurring argument is often a sign that the couple is caught in a negative cycle, not that the issue itself is unsolvable. From an EFT perspective, couples therapy helps you slow down that cycle, understand the vulnerable emotions driving it, and recognise how each partner’s moves are actually protests for connection rather than attacks.”
By understanding the emotions and attachment needs beneath conflict, couples can begin to move away from blame and defensiveness towards greater understanding, trust and connection.
Alongside relationship work, I support individuals and families experiencing trauma, complex family relationships and eating-related difficulties. I am trained in specialist approaches including Multi-Family Therapy (MFT), MANTRA and Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT). I also work with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals, embracing diversity across cultural, ethnic and relational identities.
When working with eating-related difficulties, I recognise that these challenges are often about much more than food. Together, we explore the emotional, relational and systemic factors involved, helping individuals and families build healthier relationships with food, themselves and one another.
I have also completed Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) training, a parenting approach designed to help parents manage challenging behaviours in children and adolescents without resorting to violence or confrontation. It supports parents to strengthen relationships, reduce conflict and respond with calm, confident leadership, even in the face of highly challenging behaviours. As I describe in my work with parents:
“Instead of reacting in the moment or entering power struggles, parents learn how to adopt a calm, persistent presence that de-escalates tension and sets clear, non-punitive boundaries.”
This approach helps reduce conflict, strengthen connection and create a safer family environment in which challenges can be addressed more constructively.
A central metaphor in my work is the idea that each day we “dance”—sometimes alone, sometimes with partners, families or others. Psychological distress, trauma or life changes can disrupt that dance. Together, we can understand the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, discover new ways of relating and help you find your rhythm again.
