About Julia Pugh
In my 15+ years of experience in various medical settings, including the NHS and private practice, I’ve supported numerous people as a dual-trained Individual, Couples and Psychosexual Therapist. I’m a member of the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine (IPM), COSRT and the BACP.
Both medical and psychological knowledge influence my methodology. Working with individuals and couples, I take a holistic approach. I enjoy working with people, and feel passionate about supporting them through some of life’s most challenging circumstances. I have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge supporting people who have been affected by cancer, long-term illness and a broad range of relationship and psychosexual concerns, including post-surgery sexual rehabilitation.
I received my counselling training at the esteemed University of Central Lancashire. My qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy.
I can provide support and guidance with the following:
As well as counselling privately, I’ve worked in the NHS and private health care, specialising in supporting people with long-term health conditions and the impact this can have on sexual function and wellbeing (for example, people affected by cancer, physical disabilities, and menopause). In my practice, I use a diverse range of tools, including Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytical and Behavioural approaches.
During my time as a clinical nurse specialist, I established and led a sexual health and rehabilitation clinic for patients whose sexual function had been affected by cancer treatment. I’ve authored posters and publications, including the highly acclaimed International Journal of Gynaecological Cancer.
When I’m not working, I’m very active. I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, running, and being in the countryside. I’ve also taken part in marathons and triathlons.
